Homework

Homework

I believe that homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping your child make the most of his/her experience in school. I give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares him/her for future lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps him/her develop positive study habits.

Homework is an extension of the daily work we do in class.  It will always be something the student has already seen in class.  The amounts of time to finish homework should be less than one hour per night. Most students will be able to complete daily assignments during the school day if they are focused and using their time wisely.

All assigned work is to be turned in before the start of the next school day or the assigned due date. If work is not turned in on time, a loss of recess will occur. This time will be used to complete the missing work. Any assignment that is not turned in after more than one full school day will receive a grade of a 0. A parent conference or phone call will become necessary after 3 incomplete assignments. Grades may be lowered on work that is turned in late.  It is the student’s responsibility to turn homework into the designated turn-in area upon arrival to school on the date it is due.

Students will be given several days notice to complete projects or study for tests. For everyday that a student has an excused absence, he/she will be allowed a day to make up the work.  Work missed for an unexcused absence may not be made up.

Thank you for being the key to making homework a positive experience for your child. Therefore, I ask that you make homework a top priority, set a daily homework time, and provide praise and support. Please contact me if you notice a problem. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
